What is Therapy?

Enacting change can be very simple in theory but just so challenging to initiate without the right support. As your therapist I can help you with making behavioural changes that feel impossible to do by yourself. I can help by keeping you accountable, supporting you to break down goals into achievable steps and to work through any cognitive roadblocks that present along the way. Change can also be much more challenging and involve considerable degrees of self reflection. It may involve confronting deeply entrenched feelings of shame, anxiety or rage, exploring their origins and finding ways through them to the unmet needs. There can be numerous barriers to working through some of these tricky feelings, such as schemas or core beliefs, family norms or patterns of dissociation. In therapy we can tackle any of these barriers to help you connect more deeply with your true self, and your needs and who you are and want to become.

To start the brave work of self reflection and potential behavioural changes that may eventuate from this, it is so important to feel emotionally safe, cared for and held with unconditional positive regard. These features of the work are so important to me and are at the bedrock of any work we will start together.
